ST. LOUIS — For the second time this season, Washington University in St. Louis senior linebacker Jake Coon, Barrington, Ill. (Barrington) and junior quarterback Johnny Davidson, Inverness, Ill. (Barrington) were named to theD3football.comTeam of the Week, as announced by the website Tuesday.
WashU has had six student-athletes named to theD3football.com Team of the Week this season: Coon (Oct. 9, Oct. 30), Davidson (Oct. 2, Oct. 30), junior defensive back Jeff Marek(Sept. 24) and sophomore defensive lineman Peter Pigatti (Oct. 16).
Coon tied a season-high with 16 tackles (four solo) and added a pair of interceptions in WashU’s 38-24 win at Augustana on Saturday in Rock Island, Ill. Coon and the WashU defense limited Augustana to seven points in the second half. He moved into 10th place in WashU school history in interceptions (12) and also went over 300 career tackles.
Coon leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and ranks ninth in NCAA Division III in tackles per game (12.1).
Davidson completed 38-of-49 passes for a career-high 483 yards and four touchdowns in the win at Augustana. The 483 yards passing are fifth most in NCAA Division III this season. Davidson eclipsed 4,000 passing yards in his career in the victory, and vaulted into third place all-time on the WashU career list with 4,383 yards.
Davidson ranks in the top-20 in NCAA Division III in four categories: completions per game (28.13, fourth), completion percentage (0.703, fourth), passing yards per game (291.0, 13th), passing yards (2,328, 14th) and total offense per game (296.0, 17th).
WashU plays its final road game of the 2018 season at Millikin University (6-2, 5-2 CCIW) on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m.
