JEFFERSON CITY – After setting the quickest time in the country in the 100m this weekend, Rene Medley was named both the MIAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Medley won the 100m at the Darrel Gourley Open on Saturday with an automatic qualifying time of 11.33, the fastest by a DII athlete in 2019. Medley’s winning time was .32 faster than her mark of 11.65 in the preliminaries of the 100m, as well as .33 faster than the second place finisher.
This is the first time that Medley, who was selected as the USTFCCCA Central Region Athlete of the Year during the 2018-19 indoor season, has been named the national athlete of the week. It is the second-straight week that Medley has been selected as the MIAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, as well as the fourth time in her career.
Up next for Medley and the Lincoln women’s outdoor track and field team are the Kansas Relays, which will be hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. from Thursday through Saturday (April 18-20).
