SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The 2018 Rockhurst volleyball season came to a disappointing end Saturday night, falling to the Lewis Flyers 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-18) in the championship game of the NCAA Midwest Regional in Springfield, Missouri.
The 22nd-ranked Hawks ended their season with a 32-7 record and finished the season with nine wins in their last 10 matches.
Emily Matio led the Hawks with 15 kills and six blocks. Alyssa Woodman collected 12 kills and 18 digs. Emma Kriete posted 11 kills and nine digs. Kalie Arnold tallied a team-high 36 digs. Dani Prusha added 42 assists, eight digs, five kills and three blocks. Karli Reichert totaled 15 digs and five kills.
Woodman, Arnold, Prusha and Karli Reichert were named to the All-Regional Team.
Set One: Rockhurst 25, Lewis 23
The Hawks ended the set on a 6-1 run to rally from a 22-19 deficit. Matio had the winning point while posting six kills and four blocks. Arnold tallied 15 digs.
Set Two: Lewis 25, Rockhurst 15
Lewis jumped out to a 15-10 lead and widened it to 20-12. The Hawks had seven kills and seven attack errors in the set.
Set Three: Lewis 27, Rockhurst 25
Lewis survived set point to rally for three straight points. Rockhurst took a 24-23 lead behind a 7-3 run.
Set Four: Lewis 25. Rockhurst 18
Rockhurst had a .180 hitting percentage with 14 kills and five attack errors.
Player of the Match
Emily Matio. The senior middle hitter averaged 3.75 kills and 1.50 blocks per set. She had six kills and four blocks in the first set.
