INDIANAPOLIS – Truman Football’s Jaylen Jefferson and Jack Marth have earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, following the Bulldogs 27-9 victory over Wayne (Mich.) State on Saturday.
Jefferson took the second half kickoff 92-yards to put Truman up 27-3. It was his second kickoff return touchdown in his career and he is averaging 86.5 yards in his only two kick returns this season. He also had five rushes for 22 yards and one reception on the afternoon. Truman has had 24 Player of the Week winners since 2013 with 15 coming on Special Teams.
In his second collegiate game, Marth recorded five tackles, with a quarterback sack that resulted in a forced fumble and subsequent Bulldog recovery. He was also credited with two QB hurries. In his first two games, Marth has seven tackles, four solo, 2.5 tackles for loss and three hurries. The Truman defense as a whole, set the tone early in their win on Saturday with two straight three-and-outs giving the offense optimal field position in which the Bulldogs cashed in for a 13-0 first quarter lead.
Truman will play at Stokes Stadium on Saturday when they welcome another regional opponent in Hillsdale (Mich.) College at noon. The Bulldogs have won six straight home games and nine of their last 10.
