ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Women’s Basketball (20-7, 12-6) hit the 20-win mark for the first time in three seasons by dominating rival Northwest Missouri State (11-16, 6-12), Tuesday night, in the MWSU Fieldhouse. Missouri Western shot close to 53 percent from the field and limited Northwest to 33 percent shooting in a 77-49 victory.
Missouri Western jumped out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter by shooting 66.7% from the field and 80% from the free throw line. After a low-scoring third quarter, Northwest got red-hot from 3-point range and outscored the Griffons 27-19 in the quarter. The 27 Bearcat points in the third were five more than Northwest scored in the other three quarters combined. A 19-2 Griffon run to start the fourth quarter iced the game for Missouri Western.
The Griffons end the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 29 against Washburn at 1:30 p.m.
